They are also working to reduce paper and plastic use.

16 November 2021 – FM Logistic’s Spanish arm and the hair and beauty company Wella have signed an agreement to develop ‘zero-emission logistics’ in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

FM Logistic provides logistics for Wella in its LEED Gold-certified warehouse in Illescas, in the Toledo province of Spain. The two companies are particularly striving to minimise the use of plastic in day-to-day operations. For example, they are now using recycled paper instead of plastic bubbles to secure products inside cardboard boxes. These boxes come in five different sizes so as to pack anything without wasting space. “We are using 45 percent less cardboard and 40 percent less filler paper,” says Cuca Marcellán, Director Supply Chain and BO Iberia at Wella Company.

FM Logistic and Wella are also looking for alternatives to plastic for securing packages on pallets. “We are trying to see how we can use other materials such as resin,” says Cuca Marcellán.

As for energy sources, the Illescas warehouse runs on 100% renewable energy. Moreover, FM Logistic is planning to open a hydrogen charging station in Illescas to fuel forklifts as of the first quarter of 2022.

“What we want to achieve with Wella and all our customers is logistics based on recycling, efficient waste management and zero plastics”, says Álvaro Íñiguez, operations director at FM Logistic Iberica.
