• Why did FM Logistic choose to launch this project?

  This project is part of our overall sustainable development strategy. By combining rail and road transport, we aim to transform the logistics industry, to reduce our carbon footprint and to provide sustainable solutions to our customers, while strengthening our innovative position in the sector.

• What is FM Logistic’s long-term vision with this offer?

  In the long term, we plan to extend this multimodal model to other transport routes, thus contributing to decarbonization on a larger scale. We aim to support our customers in their own energy transition by offering responsible logistics solutions, while improving the overall performance of the sector.
  

• How do you ensure coordination between rail and road transport?

  We use an integrated planning tool that synchronizes the pick-up and delivery schedules of trains and our trucks to ensure optimal continuity of the supply chain.
  

• How do you manage possible disruptions or delays in rail transport?

  In the event of a disruption, we have implemented fallback solutions, such as alternative routes. Thanks to our tracking tool, we are able to inform our customers using the solution in real time and suggest adjustments to minimize the impact on delivery times.

  Delivery times vary depending on the route and distance, but in most cases, the multimodal solution is comparable to road transport alone, while offering greater benefits in terms of reliability and sustainability. In some cases, it can even be faster.

• What are the specific requirements regarding types of goods for multimodal transport?

  Multimodal transport is suitable for all types of goods, whether bulky or containerised. Certain restrictions may apply to products requiring special conditions, such as hazardous materials or goods sensitive to temperature variations.
  Our current containers can hold up to 33 pallets.

• What types of trucks are used for the road leg of the journey? Are they equipped with alternative fuels?

  We operate trucks powered by alternative fuel OLEO 100 to handle the road connections between rail sorting hubs. This helps reduce the carbon footprint of both the upstream and downstream road transport legs.

• What are the options for storage or delivery of goods at destination?

  Goods can be made available at a depot or delivered directly to end customers, depending on the need.

• Is the solution available internationally or limited to certain countries?

  Currently, our rail-road transport solution operates along the North/South-East corridor in France. New routes are under development in Poland and Spain.
